COTE D'IVOIRECôte D'Ivoire (the Ivory Coast) on the west coast of Africa produces coffee as a secondary tree crop, after cocoa. The coffee grown is Robusta, which is a stronger flavoured bean containing more caffeine than the higher altitude grown Arabica. Coffee is grown primarily in small-holdings, but some large estates also exist. The shade of the cocoa tree is often used to protect the coffee bush. Coffees from the Côte d'Ivoire are strongly aromatic with a light body and acidity and are ideally suited for a darker roast.
