We are a long established company dating from 1864 – but have never stood still. We introduced the UK’s first Fairtrade espresso in 1997 and a few years later the UK’s first triple certified coffee. As an organisation we strive to maintain high ethical standards as well as delivering what our valued customers and their consumers want.
We’re independent through-and-through and fiercely passionate about coffee, but that isn’t all we do! Making great coffee requires great machines, class leading service and a support network of coffee sales managers and trainers to help our customers deliver great coffee.
Our sister business Espresso Warehouse does “Everything but the coffee”, which includes both Suki and Pavilion Garden tea, hot chocolate, food and all the most important coffee shop hardware a customer might need.
With our history, expertise and services it’s fair to say that “We Know Coffee”.
The sole purpose of Matthew Algie is to help build our customers grow, develop and be successful. All of our trade partners help us deliver that; whether through ethical bodies such as Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance or through trade bodies such as the British Coffee Association. The growth and success of the industry is clearly important for all involved and we support any effort to make it a success in the United Kingdom.

R. Twining and Company Ltd
Today we may be better known for our tea than our coffee, but Thomas Twining’s original shop on the Strand was in fact a coffee house.
Twinings was founded in London in 1706 by Thomas Twining who made a pledge to only sell the finest qualities and varieties from his shop at 216 Strand. In 1787 Twinings chooses its iconic logo, which today is the oldest commercial logo that has been in continuous use since it was made. In 1837 Queen Victoria makes Twinings an official Royal Warrant holder.
More than 300 years later, the passion is still here - and so are we. We still sell tea and coffee from Thomas's shop, and we still work hard to bring new blends to tea and coffee lovers.
So far, ten generations of the Twining family have been there to watch it all happen, from the creation of our famous English Breakfast blend to supplying tea to the Red Cross for food parcels during the war. In fact, Stephen Twining still works for his family's company, helping to make sure Thomas's promise is never broken.
“Being involved with the BCA reassures Twinings that we belong to an organisation that can provide up to date information on the coffee trade, be it legislative requirements, media alerts and industry information as a whole. It is also a body that can represent the UK coffee trade on our behalf.” Michael Wright - Senior Tea Buyer/Blender, Twinings UK
Taylors of Harrogate
Founded in 1886, we are an independent family business, dedicated to the pleasures of good tea and coffee.
Simply put, we buy coffee based on quality and we trade with respect for both people and planet.
Over the years we've developed long-lasting, sustainable relationships with our coffee growers. Our expert buyers regularly visit the farms and cooperatives we buy from because we believe there's no better way to establish a genuine rapport with our suppliers.
We pay sustainable prices for all our coffee by guaranteeing to cover costs of production and paying a premium for quality. This provides our suppliers with the stability and means to invest so they can meet independent environmental standards and improve living conditions in their communities. We're proud of the standards we've worked hard to establish together.
Taylors of Harrogate are proud to be a member of the BCA, working in partnership with other businesses to represent and help strengthen the coffee industry for the future.
